TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Terms for using Free Token Counter.

Last updated: June 15, 2026. These terms cover the freetokencounter.com website, the Free Token Counter browser extension, and the public pricing API. By using any of them you agree to the terms below.

1. What the service is

Free Token Counter is a free set of tools for estimating AI token counts, API costs, and context-window usage across many large language models. It includes the website (analyzer, model and provider pages, calculators, converters, pricing tables), the browser extension, and the public pricing dataset at /api/pricing.json. The service is provided free of charge and without any requirement to create an account.

2. Estimates, not guarantees

Token counts are exact only where a model's official tokenizer runs in your browser (currently OpenAI, Llama 3, Qwen, and DeepSeek families); all other providers are clearly labeled as estimates. Pricing is gathered from official provider pages for the curated catalog and from a community-maintained dataset for the extended catalog, and is shown for planning purposes. Prices change, providers update tokenizers, and chat formatting adds overhead, so displayed tokens and costs may differ from your actual bill. Always confirm critical figures against your provider's own dashboard before relying on them. Free Token Counter is not responsible for decisions made on the basis of these estimates.

3. Acceptable use

You agree not to misuse the service. In particular, you agree not to:

Attempt to disrupt, overload, or circumvent rate limits or security of the website or API.

Scrape or redistribute the site in a way that misrepresents it as your own, or that strips required attribution from the pricing data.

Use the tools to process content you do not have the right to handle.

4. Bring-your-own-key feature

The Exact Token Count page calls third-party AI provider endpoints directly from your browser using an API key you supply. You are responsible for your own API keys, for keeping them secure, and for any usage or charges incurred on your provider account. Your use of those providers is governed by their respective terms. Free Token Counter never receives your key.

5. Public pricing API

The pricing dataset is free to use, including commercially, provided you attribute freetokencounter.com as the source and do not present the data as official provider pricing. The data is provided "as is" with no guarantee of accuracy, completeness, or uptime. Please fetch it at reasonable frequencies; the data updates at most daily.

6. Intellectual property

The Free Token Counter name, site design, and original content are the property of their owner. Provider and model names (OpenAI, GPT, Claude, Gemini, Llama, and others) are trademarks of their respective owners and are used only to identify the tokenizers and pricing being estimated. Free Token Counter is independent and not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any AI provider.

7. No warranty

The service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that estimates will be accurate.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Free Token Counter and its maintainers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for any loss of profits, data, or AI API spend, arising from your use of or inability to use the service or its estimates.

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the product evolves; the current version is always the one on this page, dated above. Continued use after a change constitutes acceptance.
